Santiago Manzarbeitia Valle received a Ph.D. in History of Art from UCM (1997) for his thesis La pintura mural medieval en torno al Alto Campoo(Palencia, 2001). He was awarded the Outstanding Doctorate Prize 1996/97. He has been a Lecturer at the Department of the History of Art at UCM since 2010. Before that, he was a Tenured Lecturer (2003) and Associate Lecturer (2001) in the same department. He was Lecturer at the Ortega y Gasset University Institute (1989-2003).
Since 2012 he has been a member of the UCM University Institute for Religious Studies in the Philosophy Faculty, where he teaches classes for the Master’s Degree in Religious Studies.
Professional experience: He was hired by the Prado Museum to update the Prado Museum Database (1995) and by the Madrid Regional Department of Culture for the Inventory of Property of the Diocese of the Region of Madrid (1991).

His main lines of research are medieval mural painting and religious iconology and iconography:
- Head researcher on the Santander/UCM Research Project Mediaeval Mural Painting and its Dissemination in the Region of Madrid, 12th to 16th Centuries. (2008-2009).
- Member of the Teaching Innovation and Quality Project “Digital Database of Mediaeval Iconography (2009-2018), with which the digital magazine Revista Digital de Iconografía Medieval is associated.
- Member of the MUSACCES R&D project within the CAPIRE+B group (a multi-disciplinary group that analyses European religious iconography): dissemination of religious iconography and medieval iconography in the Prado Museum in specialist conferences and seminars (2016-2019).
- Scientific coordinator of the 11th International Complutense Symposia on Mediaeval Art: Painted on the wall. Murals as a visual support in the Middle Ages (2019).
- Member of the Santander/Complutense Research Project 2019 Transmission and Reception of the Bible: Texts and Iconography. (2019-2020).
Academic Management: He has been the Coordinator for History of Art on the UCM Erasmus Committee of the Faculty of Geography and History (2008-2013). Since 2018, he has been a member of the Doctoral Programme Committee of the University Institute of Religious Studies at the UCM Faculty of Philology
